Reorder points
A reorder point is a simple rule: when stock falls to this number, order that many more. It ignores the forecast entirely, which makes it predictable — useful for products with steady, well-known sales, or ones you always buy in the same quantity.
Who uses reorder points
Section titled “Who uses reorder points”- On Starter, every product does. Starter doesn’t include forecast-based suggestions, so the Reorder page suggests products when their stock falls to the reorder point you set on them.
- On Growth and Pro, products you choose. Set a product’s Forecast method to Reorder point and it follows the rule instead of a forecast.
On Growth and Pro, a product with any other method ignores its reorder point and reorder quantity, even if you’ve filled them in.
Set a reorder point
Section titled “Set a reorder point”- Open the product from Products.
- In the variant’s Planning section, enter a Reorder point: reorder when available and incoming stock falls to this.
- Optionally enter a Reorder quantity: how many to order each time. Leave it blank to order back up to twice the reorder point.
- On Growth or Pro, set Forecast method to Reorder point.
- Press Save.
With the method set to Reorder point, a reorder point is required. Leave it empty and you’ll see “Set a reorder point to reorder from one.”
Reorder points are set one variant at a time, on each product’s page. They can’t be imported from a file.
How the rule works
Section titled “How the rule works”Shelfcast adds up the product’s available stock across your active locations and what’s incoming on your open purchase orders. Then:
- No reorder point set: nothing is suggested.
- Above the reorder point: nothing is suggested.
- At or below it: Shelfcast suggests the Reorder quantity. With no reorder quantity, it suggests enough to get back up to twice the reorder point.
The result is then rounded up to the supplier’s minimum order quantity and whole packs, the same as any suggestion.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”With nothing incoming:
| Reorder point | Reorder quantity | Available | Suggested |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 25 | 11 | Nothing — still above the point |
| 10 | 25 | 10 | 25 |
| 10 | 25 | 3 | 25 |
| 10 | blank | 4 | 16 — back up to 20, twice the point |
Incoming stock counts toward the total. With a reorder point of 10, 6 available and 5 on an open order, the total is 11, so nothing is suggested.
Choosing a reorder point
Section titled “Choosing a reorder point”A good reorder point covers what you’ll sell while you wait for the delivery, with a little extra. Shelfcast shows each product’s Daily demand on every plan, so you can use it as a guide: a product that sells 2 a day from a supplier with a 14-day lead time sells about 28 while you wait, so a reorder point a little above 28 leaves room for a slow delivery.
