Read your inventory history

History opens Inventory history: one list of changes to your stock, newest first. It answers “why did this number change?” for anything done in Shelfcast, and at least “when, and by how much?” for everything else.

Column What it shows
Product The product and variant, with a note underneath, such as “Received on PO-1001”.
Date When the change happened.
Location Where it happened.
Change How much the quantity went up or down. Changes to a quantity other than available are labeled, such as Incoming.
After The quantity after the change, as Shopify reported it.
Reason Why it changed, with a link to the purchase order or stock count where there is one.
By Who made the change: a staff member’s name, Outside Shelfcast, or the name from an imported file.

Entries keep the product, location and staff names they were made with, so they still read correctly after a product or location is deleted.

Imported history You import an adjustment history file From the file From the file

The reasons Damaged, Shrinkage, Restock and Correction come only from imported files. Shelfcast doesn’t make manual adjustments itself — to write off damaged stock, change it in Shopify, or run a stock count.

Whenever the available quantity of a product changes anywhere else — a sale, a return, an edit in your Shopify admin, a POS adjustment, another app, or a transfer made in Shopify — Shopify tells Shelfcast, and it’s logged with the source Shopify, the reason Other and By shown as Outside Shelfcast.

Shelfcast logs outside changes to available stock only. Changes to on-hand or committed quantities alone, such as fulfilling an order that was already committed, aren’t listed.

  • Search by product or SKU.
  • Location — one location, or All locations.
  • Source — Purchase order, Stock count, Shopify or Imported history.
  • Reason — any of the reasons above. Received is listed twice: one covers stock moved from incoming to available, the other covers extra units added on top (and receipts in imported files). Most deliveries use the first.
  • From and To — a date range, in your store’s timezone.
  • Quantity — Available stock (the default) shows changes to what you can sell. All quantities adds the incoming changes from placing, receiving and cancelling purchase orders.
  • Anything before you installed Shelfcast, unless you import it. → Moving from Stocky
  • The reason or person behind outside changes, as above.
