Counting on a phone or offline

Stock counts work on a phone or tablet as well as a computer, so you can walk the shelves with the device in your hand. If the signal drops in the stockroom, keep counting — Shelfcast keeps your counts on the device and sends them when you’re back online.

Open Shelfcast on your phone from the Shopify app, or from your Shopify admin in the phone’s browser, then open the count from Stock counts.

Several people can count the same count at once, each on their own device. Everything lands in one list.

To scan, either:

  • Use the camera. Press the camera button next to Scan or enter a barcode or SKU and point it at the barcode. If the camera doesn’t open on your device, you’ll see “Something went wrong. Try again.”
  • Pair a Bluetooth barcode scanner that types the code and presses Enter. Tap into the scan field and scan.

You can also type a code into the field, or type a quantity straight into a product’s row.

Every count is saved on the device first, then sent to Shelfcast in batches. While you’re offline — or if sending fails — the count shows:

12 counts are waiting to sync

“Counts are kept on this device while you are offline, and sent as soon as you are back online.”

They’re sent as soon as the connection comes back, or the next time you open the count on that device.

While counts are waiting:

  • Scans aren’t checked yet. The product name and running total for each scan appear once it’s been sent, and so does “[code] is not in your catalog” for a code Shelfcast doesn’t recognize.
  • The page needs a connection to open. Open the count while you have signal, then keep it open as you work.
  • The waiting counts live in that device’s browser. Reopen the count on the same device to send them, and don’t clear the browser’s data until the banner has gone.
