Print barcode labels

After you receive a delivery, you can print a barcode label for each unit, with the product’s name, price and a barcode your scanner can read. Labels are part of the Growth and Pro plans.

Either:

  • right after receiving, press Print labels on the banner “Print labels for this delivery” — the quantities are just the units you received; or
  • on any purchase order that’s had something received, press Print labels — the quantities are everything received on the order so far.

On Starter, Print labels takes you to the plan page instead.

The Print labels page lists each product with its Barcode, Price, how many were Received, and the number of Labels to print. Change any quantity — set it to 0 to skip a product.

  • Use quantities received puts the received quantities back.
  • Clear all sets every quantity to 0.

You can print up to 3,000 labels at a time. Above that, Shelfcast asks you to “Print up to 3,000 labels at a time.”

Under Label layout:

Layout Size For
Label printer roll One 2.25 × 1.25 in label at a time Thermal label printers
Avery 5160 sheets Thirty 2.625 × 1 in labels on each US Letter page Office printers

Press Print [number] labels. The labels open in a new tab, and your browser’s print dialog does the rest. There’s no direct connection to a label printer — any printer your computer can print to will work.

The tab works for an hour. After that, print again from the labels page.

  • The product’s title.
  • The variant and SKU, such as “Large · TOTE-L”. The SKU is left off when it’s the same as the barcode.
  • The product’s price in Shopify, in your store’s currency.
  • A Code 128 barcode of the product’s barcode — or its SKU, if it has no barcode — with the code printed underneath.

Code 128 is read by most barcode scanners. Labels print the same way for every product; their size and content can’t be changed.

To scan the labels back in, use the scan field when receiving or counting — it matches barcodes and SKUs.

No barcode — “Add a barcode or SKU to the product in Shopify to print one.” The product has neither, so there’s nothing to encode. Add one in Shopify, and Shelfcast picks it up as soon as Shopify reports the change, or at the next sync.

May not scan — “This code is long for the label, so its bars print too thin for some scanners. Add a shorter barcode to the product in Shopify.” Long codes still print, but the bars get narrow. Test one label before printing a batch, or try Avery 5160 sheets, which leave a little more room for long codes.
