Glossary
Available — Shopify’s sellable quantity. The Products and Reorder pages add it up across your active locations.
On hand — Shopify’s physical quantity at a location, including units set aside for orders. Stock counts compare what you find with this.
Committed — units on orders that haven’t been fulfilled yet, from Shopify.
Incoming — on Products and Reorder, units still to arrive on your Shelfcast purchase orders that are Ordered or Partially received. On a product’s per-location stock table, it’s Shopify’s own incoming figure, which can include other sources such as transfers.
Not tracked — Shopify doesn’t track inventory for this variant, so Shelfcast can’t forecast it or change its stock. → Your products
Deleted in Shopify — the product was deleted in Shopify. Shelfcast keeps it so your history still makes sense.
Inactive — a location you’ve deactivated in Shopify. Purchase orders and counts can only use active locations.
SKUs (in plan limits) — product variants whose inventory Shopify tracks.
Forecasting and reorder
Section titled “Forecasting and reorder”Daily demand — how many of a product Shelfcast expects you to sell each day. → How forecasting works
Days of stock / Days left — available stock ÷ daily demand: how long what you have will last. Incoming stock isn’t counted.
Reorder / Suggested reorder / Order — the quantity Shelfcast suggests ordering now.
Needs reorder — a product with a suggested quantity above zero.
Planning horizon — how far ahead a suggestion plans: the supplier’s lead time + Order enough for (days) + Safety stock (days). 51 days with the default settings.
Lead time — days from placing an order to it arriving. Set per supplier, or Default lead time (days) in Settings → Planning.
Order enough for (days) — how long each order should last once it arrives.
Safety stock (days) — extra days of demand added to each suggestion, in case sales or deliveries surprise you.
Reorder point — when available plus incoming stock falls to this, a reorder is suggested. Used with the Reorder point method, and for every product on Starter. → Reorder points
Reorder quantity — how many to order at the reorder point. When blank, enough to get back up to twice the reorder point.
Forecast method — how a product’s demand is worked out:
- Automatic — picks Seasonal, Steady or New item from the product’s history. The default.
- Seasonal — what sold over the same weeks last year, adjusted for this year’s trend.
- Steady — a weighted average of the last 90 days in stock.
- New item — the average per day since the product was listed.
- Reorder point — a fixed rule instead of a forecast.
- No sales yet — nothing has sold, so there’s nothing to forecast from.
